The Long Term Care section
of the facility, funded by the Ministry of Health Long Term
Care Division, provides 24 hour nursing care to 166 residents
under the regulations and guidelines set out for us by the
Ministry of Health.
The Wexford has six units with varying
levels of care to accommodate the specific needs of each resident.
The units range from lighter care for our most independent
residents, to heavy care for those residents with the most
advanced physical and cognitive care needs. Three secure units
provide care to the residents in our population with cognitive
impairments who require safe, secure environments. Each unit
has between 25 and 30 residents, with it's own compliment of
nursing staff.
Our Nursing Department staff includes Registered
Nurses, Registered Practical Nurses, and Personal Support Workers,
all of whom work as a team to provide the highest quality of
care. There are two Physicians available in the facility three
days of the week. Additional therapeutic services provided
include physiotherapy, podiatry, dental services, lab and x-ray
services, and monthly visits from a psycho-geriatrician.
Our
Clinical Dietician creates our menus in conjunction with a
resident food advisory committee and monitors the nutritional
requirements of each of our residents. In addition to regular
meals, nourishments are provided to all residents three times
daily to ensure dietary requirements are fulfilled. Special diets
and textures are available for those clients with special needs.
The social needs of our residents are met through activity
programming by Life Enrichment Therapists. Activities vary
widely, from one-to-one time spent with residents to facility
wide events attended by the majority of our residents. The
facility also has numerous social areas available to the residents,
including a daily coffee kiosk, our outdoor patio and pond,
interdenominational chapel, library, tea room, and gift shop. |
