The Wexford Residence Inc. is a vibrant seniors residence in Scarborough that combines independent apartments, long-term care and a seniors’ community centre. Established in 1978 and incorporated in 1995, The Wexford is owned and operated by a charitable non-profit corporation with a Board of Directors.
The Wexford Foundation Board is currently seeking a Manager of Development who will be responsible for the following key duties:
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Overall responsibility for fundraising activities and administrative functions related to the Wexford Foundation.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Administration:
- Produce and distribute the Wexford newsletter (The Communicator), a minimum of 3 times per year.
- Plan Foundation Board meetings and distributes agenda.
- Attend all Foundation Board meetings, take minutes and follow up on action items.
- Acknowledge all donations and ensure requisite tax receipts are provided in a timely manner.
- Ensure website, related to the Foundation, is kept current and respond to any inquiries in a timely manner.
- Review and revise Foundation policies and procedures on an annual basis.
- Support Chair of the Foundation Board as required.
2. Fund Raising:
- Arrange and oversee the Christmas campaign.
- Assist in the co-ordination and planning of the annual Golf Tournament.
- Develop ideas and organize the annual Social Fundraising event.
- Maintain the donor database.
- Plan and organize the annual donor recognition event.
- Identify and develop rapport/relationships with prospective donors (local businesses, schools, churches, etc.)
- Identify fund raising opportunities and develop recommendations and action plans to implement (e.g. engaging families of the Wexford).
Education/Skills/Qualifications:
1. Five years experience with fundraising activities and the work of a Foundation.
2. Background in gerontology and customer service highly desirable.
3. A team player with strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
4. Excellent communication skills in both oral and written English.
5. Ability to advocate on behalf of clients.
6. Computer Proficiency (Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Publisher).
7. Well organized, ability to plan and operate within a budget effectively.
8. Self-starter who will take ownership of a project and carry it through until completion
9. Able to work independently with minimal supervision
Working Conditions:
Standard office environment as well as local travel to support relationship development and management activities. Some physical activity may be required to support events (e.g. setting up silent auction).
